The City of Tallahassee is issuing a precautionary boil water notice to approximately 100 homes in the Summerbrooke area due to a water line break that occurred at  8 p.m. this evening.  The 12-inch water line break took place at Meadowridge Drive and Bel Grande Drive.

The homes impacted are along Bell Grand, as well as on Meadowridge where it connects with Bel Grande.  The homes under the precautionary boil water notice are without water at this time, although water service is anticipated to be restored by midnight, possibly earlier.

In addition, the water line break is causing low water pressure in some parts of Summerbrooke and Ox Bottom neighborhoods. The cause of the break is unknown.  There was no construction underway in the area.

A precautionary boil water notice means that water has passed initial tests for satisfactory water quality, however the Department of Environmental Protection requires additional testing which takes 24 hours to analyze.  Accordingly, the city recommends that for the next 24 hours, impacted households boil any water that will be consumed.
